Building a viable art business is a marathon not a sprint. I want to let you know there is no such thing as an overnight success. Okay, maybe in some strange instance, something incredible goes viral, but that success most likely is a one-hit-wonder. Why? Because instant success does not have the infrastructure to sustain the momentum since achievement comes from hard work and lessons, only an experienced entrepreneur can obtain and maintain accomplishment. Kind of like lottery winners, 70% lose their fortune within a few years because these winners never learned how to manage their finances—the same principle.
I am not here to discourage you from transforming your talent into a business; I just want to show you the reality of what it takes to be a successful artist. It is not a walk in the park; sometimes, you will want to throw in the towel, but don’t. There will be a time that you cry because it is so darn hard, but dry your tears and try again. Making your dream a reality can be frustrating, but if you are committed to making it work, you got the right recipes. For over 20 years, my husband and I worked very hard at operating a demanding industry. We are the makers, producers, sellers, and marketers. We started in a humble beginning; I worked in a restaurant while starting my part-time art business. I had a passion for pursuing my dream and a thirst for success, so I did what I had to do. I painted around the clock of my uninspiring job. When my husband, Paul, and I became full-time artists, we started with art and craft shows and spent many hours traveling and selling art. Eventually, we saved a little money, bought our first house on a commercial road, and opened our first gallery. Four galleries later, I am still here. Even with the pandemic, I am finding a way to blossom. Without my gallery, I am pivoting my business to coaching because I finally got the time to create this course that I have been dying to develop for artists like you, someone with big dreams of making money from her creative pursuits! I incubated this dream at the beginning of 2018; my vision was to design a program with an easy step-by-step framework to guide you to success. But with my long gallery hours, I couldn’t devote my time to it. So when Covid 19 hits, I shut down my gallery and started creating my signature course. I designed it for women artists that needed empowerment from someone who has traveled the journey, someone to show them how to make their dream of becoming an artist-entrepreneur a possibility. Being a working artist does take a lot of self excavation. You must reach deep into your potential and take on a proactive attitude to overcome challenges. In many ways, you must re-invent yourself to become what you need to be to see triumph. If you are ready for the ride, the light at the end of the tunnel is worth every bit of hardship. Because once you know how to make money from your talent, your mind will expand, and something beautiful will sprout and grow from the results. If I were to measure myself before my entrepreneurship and after, I have to say I am completely different. As the business grows, I change; I become more competent, savvier, and fearless. There is no fast way; the easiest route is learning from someone who has gone before you. Find an art business program with the proper framework, and invest your time learning and implementing it. Learning from an artist-entrepreneur does take the guesswork away, saving you time and money. And having a tried and true path gives you the confidence you need to start. If you know deep down in your heart that you want to learn from me, skip the learning curve, and get right to the strategies to help you soar, then put your name on the waiting list; the doors to my workshop will soon be open. But if you are not so sure if you are ready to commit, then take some time to work through this insightful worksheet; your participation will give you the answers you need. Remember, accomplishment happens when you take the courage to walk the journey and learn along the way. With Creative Joy, Ting
