I googled the word Sale, nowhere does it say it is a dirty word. On the other hand, it says "the exchange of a commodity for money; the action of selling something." So why do artists have such a problem with it? Hey fellow artist, I know so many artists have such a hard time selling their talents. Most creatives want to paint, draw, and create with no intention to sell, which is fine if you do it as a hobby, but it is a different story if you want to do it as a business. Unless you have the privilege to hire an art agent to do the selling for you, and by the time you pay for the service, you won't be turning a profit. Most artists are uncomfortable charging money for their talent. It is almost like they feel greedy to want more from their God-given talent; it seems wrong.
They don't like pricing, selling, and marketing their art; they feel weird about the whole business process, so they continue to give away art for free or charge little for it. What saddens me is their self-sabotaging thinking. So if struggle with the same thing; your disserving attitude has to change if you want to quit your 9-5 job and open an art business. Sales is not a dirty word; it is a business practice. In our case, we are exchanging our talent for money. Our job as an artist is to beautify peoples' homes and lives. Our art makes their homes into restful and gorgeous oases. Therefore by having a problem exchanging money and goods, you are saying you are not worth it. Pardon me, but that is Bullshit way to think. I want you to start thinking about what it will mean to you and your family if you bring in money with your talent. Things that you couldn't afford before will become possible. Vacations that you didn't dare to dream of will also become a reality. Waking up happy every morning and excited to work will also become a way of life. My life changed when I decided to make my talent into a business. Nothing is more empowering than the feeling of being in charge of your destiny, the one that you are meant to live. The thing is, sales do not have to feel icky. I created a six-figure business because of my talent and sales skill. Being front-of-house has taught me so much about human psychology and sales. I learn that the experience can be enriching and enjoyable. Did I feel weird in the beginning? Yes, of course. On the first day of my gallery opening, I was terrified, but I knew I had to do something about my fear because I had no choice. I wasn't going to go back to being an employee working hard for someone's business with no future and little rewards. Sales to me are both mindset and skill. The mentality of knowing that you are capable of doing it and succeeding in it is powerful. The skill comes from understanding human psychology being aware that sales do not have to be a slimy transaction; it is about building relationships, finding common ground, nurturing, cultivating, and authentic communication. Most of my customers became my friends because our experience with each other was nurturing and soulful. Check out my testimonials on my art website. The testimonials do not just talk about my talent; they talk about my personality and their exchange with me. My Introverted Nature has taught me that sales can be a gentle, honest, joyful and meaningful experience with mutual benefits. Stay with me, and I will teach you how. Artist, there is no way around sales if you want to do it as a business, but you can do it with dignity and integrity. With Creative Joy, Ting
