Hi artists, An art business is multi-faceted because we are the makers, marketers, and sellers. Our diverse role playing is not an easy feat, but it is doable, and it takes discipline. Our creative minds are different as well, we make beautiful things, but we lack the focus to see things through. All we need is a disciplinary system that works. The good thing is: Discipline is learnable. If you want to build a successful art business, you need to master your habit. Today, I would like to share with you my daily system to make sure that I stay on top and make things happen. All it takes is a little dedication, and it is very doable. And the most important part of Discipline is list making and scheduling. Before my List Making Life.
I learned about list making from my husband, Paul. He made lists as long as I have known him. He had them all over the place, but he got things done. At the time I met him, I was an aimless creative gal, I had many dreams, but I didn’t know how to get things accomplished. After Paul and I met, he taught me about list making, and I adopted the habit wholeheartedly. I realized that if I want anything in life, it takes discipline and dedication. After I Adopted the List Making System, the Habit Paid Off BIG. Since then, Paul and I have lived in the Caribbean twice, moved across the country twice, had 4 galleries in total, many exotic travels, we also managed to squeeze in a 4-month dream trip and purchased our dream home. We accomplished most of this while living a creative life with an art business. I want to share my system with you because creating a life and business by your own design is possible. It just takes discipline. Since my initial list making phase, I have gone a little further and developed it into a daily system. And I think this is going to help you out tremendously. Above, I have created a 16 minutes mini training video and below a transcript to follow. Remember, you are entitled to your dream so let’s make it real by adopting a habit that will carry you to the next level. Here is my daily system. Step 1, Grab a journal or use a project management app such as Trillo or Asana. I am a tactile person, so I prefer a coil Journal. Step 2, Start Scheduling things in. I do my daily schedule the night before or after my workday. I will jot down everything that needs to be done the next day on my page and number them by the rank of importance. Whatever project I rank as the Number 1 will be the first thing I will tackle the next day. You can also get very detailed in your scheduling by assigning a time frame to finish each task. This way it will keep you very focused and undistracted. The other thing about ranking your things by importance is that by the end of the day, the important ones will get done first, leaving the least important ones last. Step 3, Highlight anything that was not accomplished for the day and schedule them for the following day, and everything that you have accomplished on your list gets crossed off. By doing so, you will set your goals on track. Step 4, At the end of the day, take 15 minutes and schedule your day for tomorrow. Some important notes: Another thing that is important for saving time is batch your projects. For example, if you are doing a FB LIVE that day, your makeup is on, your lights set up, you might as well batch a few videos on the same day or perhaps get a photoshoot done. Always batch your work because things get done more efficiently, saving you time in the long run. It all Adds Up! If you have a full-time job or a young family that needs your time, think about how much time do you have in your day that you can be left uninterrupted. If you have 1 or 2 hours, then those times will be your Sacred Time. That should be your time to schedule your goals, with 1-2 hrs a day, that equals 7-14 hours a week! If you pick the right tasks and focus on what you’ve planned, you can build a side business. Get your Family involved! Remember, you are entitled to your dream and time. If you have a busy family life, have a meeting with your family, get them involved in helping you to accomplish your goal. Let them know, when you make money from your inspired creations, there will be more vacation time and perhaps even a dream house in the making, and the entire family wins. Well, I hope you will adopt this habit and make your dream life into reality because it is POSSIBLE! With Creative Joy, Ting
