Hey artist, if you want to have a successful business, you need to set goals. Goals setting is part of growth, and it takes discipline and consistency to accomplish them. Here, I have put together five disciplines that are essential to having a successfully art business. The trick here is discipline and consistency. Remember, "Rome wasn't built in a day". My Story.
I have always been hands-on entrepreneur mistakes made along the way. At one point in my art career, when I was doing well, I became lethargic, and my business was on auto-pilot. Dissatisfied with my uninspired self, I decided to revamp my business. I started taking business classes, and that is when my entrepreneurial spirit got revived. Since then, I swore to myself that I will always be learning and setting strategic goals. Equipped with the right mindset, my life and business changed for the better. Now, I am where I want to be, an artist-entrepreneur, doing my art and teaching artists how to grow a viable business. I am making the kind of impact that I once dreamed of having. And I want the same for you. Here, I have put together five disciplines that are essential to having a successfully art business. 1. Set Measurable Goals. Having a business that operates well and grows continuously, you need to set goals and see them through. Your goals have to be measurable, specific, timely, and realistic. By having a target in mind, you can strategize the direction to get there and measure the success that it brings you. This way, if your plan did not yield the result you are hoping for, you can tweak it, make it better, and re-test it. So the trick here is don’t attempt your goal blindly, have a plan in mind, and see it through. 2. Be Disciplined and Produce Work. Be consistent in your art-making. Go into your studio and work, come rain or shine. Schedule your studio time and set goals for your yearly collection. To have a sellable art portfolio, you need at least 20-25 paintings per year, with one genre focus. Consistent work will naturally improve your skills, and with effective marketing, sales will follow. 3. Marketing and Monetizing. As you know, talent does not sell itself. You need to be consistently marketing your art via newsletters and social media. Create a list of marketing ideas and set up a campaign. Always keep track of its progress and find out what worked and what didn’t. Take the things that worked and make them better, or tweak the ones that need improvement. 4. Having the Right Mindset and Knowing your whys. Above all, having the right mindset is crucial to the success of your business. Keep your eye on your goal. Write down why having a successful art business is vital to your life. To keep yourself in the right mindset, revise your answers often. If you want to become a successful artist, then you need stamina, grid, and passion. Don’t let anything deter you from getting your end goal accomplished. Train yourself to overwrite your fear, stay strong and determined. Get yourself accustomed to taking risks and overcoming doubts. It does take courage to see things through. 5. Set Visions. It is best to set a 12 months goal every year and see them through. Focus on goals that you can scale up and that impact your business the most. Every 3 months, analyze your progress and process. After the year, look at each part of your business and see which one has the most profitability. Take your analysis, learn from it and expand your vision. Above all, remember to trust your intuition and enjoy your journey. You are Not Alone The good news is you don't have to do this alone.
