Hello fellow artist, For the past 22 weeks, I have been coaching my private FB group on art marketing. One thing I have noticed some members excel tremendously in a short time, some trailing behind. The difference lies in their characters. Some members are serial learners, and some are implementers. Which one are you? Serial Learner or implementer? The ones that do well are the ones that implement what they have learned. These artists have networked, established wholesalers, started a collection of artwork, and sold it along the way. The other ones are learning but not implementing their knowledge. If you are a serial learner, here is a little advice, you need to get over to the other side, the implementing side, to see results. And if you want to own a successful art business one day, you will have to put your marketing knowledge to use. By no means I am calling you out. I just want to help you conquer your fears and encourage you to work towards your art business by doing daily consistent action.
I know the reasons why you are doing this. It is because learning is not scary but doing it is, you are afraid to put your knowledge into practice because you do not want to fail and look like a fool. The Trick is to Learn, Implement and Tweak. But did you know that if you do not do anything, you will never get anywhere? It is better to fail and learn something from it than not try. Implementation is just as important as learning. Once you put things into action, you will be that much further with your goal. The trick is to learn, implement and tweak. No one starts a new business looking completely perfect unless you are a celebrity with an entourage to assist you with business backup. But the rest of us have to start as a lone beginner, so of course, it is not going to be perfect. There are going to be some rough edges, but that is to be expected. And if anyone had the gall to laugh at you, believe me, they are the naysayers, not the doers. A New Journey is always a little Scary but You Can Handle it. So, fellow artist, a new journey is always a little scary and uncomfortable, but don’t let that deter you from starting. Everything that I have gone through in my entrepreneurship is from trials and errors. At the beginning of my journey, I did not know anything. I had to learn, implement, and tweak consistently to get where I am today. When I decided to start my creative business, there were so many things that made me feel incompetent, but I wanted it so badly that I was willing to take the chance. And I am glad that my ignorant bliss and determination paid off. Your Homework this Week So this week, think about that one thing that you have learned either from my FB Group or elsewhere, which you can implement in your business. Something that is going to up-level your business today. Is it: to start your website? Create a sellable art collection? Apply for Art shows? Get on a Podcast? Start collecting Testimonials? Start an Art Business Social Media Account? Begin a Weekly or monthly newsletter? Start a subscriber list? Whatever it is, schedule it in and put a deadline on it. Just pick that one thing that propels growth, do it, tweak it and make it better and that is all you have to do.
