Hi artists, In my last week's blog, I talked about creating a sellable art collection to dreaming of owning a successful art business with a better plan and the right mindset to support your goal. If you haven't read it yet, here is the link. This week I want to ask you some serious questions to continue this journey of dreaming of having a business and life you would love. Hi, if we haven't met, I am Ting, an artist, and art business, coach. I help artists of all levels market their art and grow their business to live a creative life with time and money freedom. I have been selling my art for 20 years in various galleries and venues. For the past 13 years, My husband, Paul, and I have operated our award-winning gallery. Our creative business afforded us a comfortable living and many memorable travel adventures.
Here's the thing, when you create art, who do you create for? I know many artists do art for themselves, aimlessly, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that if you are doing it as a hobby. But if you desire to turn your art hobby into a business, your portfolio has to be strategically curated for a target audience. I have seen potential artist-entrepreneurs portfolios, and most of them are not strategically curated; it flounders from one topic to the next. And they wonder why their art is not selling at the rate they would like it to be and if they have any chance of quitting their job and becoming a full-time artist soon. May I tell you, those are the right questions to ask. Because when you ask the right questions, you will search for the correct answers, that is, if you are pro-active at wanting to accomplish your dream and finding solutions. To sell your art, you need an audience. How will you attract them if you don't know who they are? Here are a few questions to point you in the right direction:
I know one thing you could be doing, and that is to make art with intention. If your art collection is not curated; it is vast and sporadic with no focus. You may be afraid to be too specific and lose out on the opportunity to sell to everyone, so you broaden your scope to be all-inclusive. Meanwhile, you may think it is the right thing to do, but it is actually the opposite. To make it in the art world, you got to know your audience because how else will you plan out your collection? Definitely not a shot in the dark. This week, I want you to think about your audience, who has purchased art from you, who they are, what age group, their personality, and why they buy your art. BTW, if you don't know where you stand in your art business, I have created a workbook with 15 queries to help you put things in perspective. It will help you forecast your past action vs. results, giving you an idea of how to project your 2022. This exercise enables you to reflect on your past year's performance and gives you a great view of what to launch for the new year. It is the only way to make way and set intentions for the new year. Well, don't you wait for your year in review any longer; Click here for your workbook and get started. P/S Please let me know if you find this blog helpful or have any questions. I would really appreciate it if you would leave me a comment or a question below. Thank you. With Creative Joy, Ting
