Life as an artist is rewarding; I love having a creative business. I get to envision and design the life of my dream. In case, we haven't met, my name is Ting, I am an artist and an art business coach. I have been painting and selling my art for over 20 years and for the past 13 years I operated my award winning art gallery. Why I Love My Creative Business: Aside from the creative benefits, I also get to operate a business with tremendous potential to scale up and diversify. As a creative entrepreneur, those two major points are music to my ears. One of the best benefits of the art business is that it is low-cost to start, and the profit margin is substantial. So if you know what your art is about and who your target audience is, that is half your battle. And the other half of the challenge relies on your sales and marketing skills.
But before we can grow our business we have to know our art intrinsically well and who our customers are. Last week we touched base on how to create art that is uniquely yours with a distinctive style and messaging. Today, I want us to discover who your target audience is. How I found My Ideal Customers: Since jumping feet first into launching my business is my style, I was utterly committed to making my business work, I concentrated on what I knew best and focused on my art messaging and selling. I dove into my storytelling art and created work that spoke to women like me. Inadvertently I found my tribe, and that was how my Artist Diary Series continued to grow, and my art became a mission to empower women. When I started my art journey, I was not thinking about who my audience was. I was creating from my heart and stayed focused on my mission. My consistency is what brought the right target audience to me. Strategize and Plan: This week I want to ask you some questions to help you get closer to achieving the business and life you desire. So artist, when you paint, who is your target audience? If you don’t know what your art is about and who your target audience is, the path to attracting them would be difficult. Most artists jump from one topic to another because the act of being creative fulfill their needs, and that is all good if art is your hobby. But to turn your art into a business, you must be strategic about what kind of work you want to create and for whom. Here's the thing, when you paint, what is your art about? Who do you think will resonate with your kind of art? In what way can you attract them? And where can you find them? Just imagine if you know who you are painting for, wouldn’t that make selling your art easier? And from that realization, you can then enhance your art further to attract your focus audience. Once you immerse deeper into the meaning of your art, you will know who you are creating for and your journey as an artist will be more meaningful.
