Only 25 % of new businesses make it to 15 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. And mine has lasted over 23 years, which says something about my artistic ability, entrepreneurial skills, and mindset. Mindset and Confidence are the main problems I manage over 500 creative members, and the problem I see with artists is not the need for more talent or skill; instead, they need confidence and the right mindset. It is the conviction that their talent can make them an income that paralyzes them. Often creative people are so afraid to fail they don’t even try because it is easier to be on automation. But is not taking action that much easier? I don’t think so because there is always that nagging whisper urging them to use their talent to better their life. I know this, because I heard that nagging voice, too, before I began my artistic journey. If this sounds familiar, then you must realize that by not trying, you take your gift for granted. Discomfort is today’s currency But on the other hand, I see artists flourishing, doing the work, and experiencing what being an art artist-entrepreneur is all about.
The most rewarding part of coaching is watching students transform themselves into entrepreneurs by simply implementing the knowledge they have gained. They are inspired and bewildered by how their talent could give them the freedom they desire. What’s enriching to watch is their kick-ass confidence; when they have enough sales under their belts, gain publication coverage, get accepted to juried shows, multiplied their commission work, or became self-reliant entrepreneurs. These inspired artists are empowered that their future depends on their effort, and they don’t mind working hard because they know their potential is infinite. Learn and Implement Becoming an artist entrepreneur is about taking action. It’s about having the courage to see things through and trusting that you can solve all your problems with the right support and knowledge. And most importantly, your mindset has to align with your aspirations. It takes work, grit, sweat, and good marketing and sales skills. I know; I’ve done it for over 20 years, and believe me, in the beginning, I had times that I wanted to throw in the towel and get a paycheck, but I didn’t, and by trusting my gut instinct, the reward is enormous. Once I took the courage to see things through, I was consistently amazed by how my artistic talent gave me the life I designed for myself; Traveling to exotic countries and extended adventures were made possible because my art business gave me the financial and schedule freedom to make all my dreams possible.
