"My journey took an unexpected turn when I entered Fashion Design School. While I excelled in fashion illustrations and understanding fashion principles, I stumbled in sewing. I needed more than my community course to become a skilled sewer. I found myself ruining more clothes than I could create, and my instructors were understandably shaking in their boots whenever I approached a new outfit. 🤣." Hi, artist, Have you ever had a turning point in your life where your failure became a Win? I had one major one and here is my story. My big sis's fashion magazines ignited my passion for fashion design in my early years as I filled my journals with sketches of the latest trends. Moving to England only fueled this passion, as high fashion was ever-present. As a young adolescent, I constantly sketched in my sketchbook, each page a testament to my love for clothes and trends. So naturally, as I grew up, I wanted to be a fashion designer. I had no idea how to sew or illustrate, so I took a couple of community courses, created a top and a skirt, and learned how to do fashion illustration ( I had a natural nag with that). I prepared my portfolio, handed it in, and got accepted!! 🤩
My journey took an unexpected turn when I entered Fashion Design School. While I excelled in fashion illustrations and understanding fashion principles, I stumbled in sewing. I needed more than my community course to become a skilled sewer. I found myself ruining more clothes than I could create, and my instructors were understandably shaking in their boots whenever I approached a new outfit. 🤣 One day, my well-intentional instructors pulled me aside; it was like a moment of embarrassment and self-discovery. They pointed out that my true talent lies in art, not fashion. And I couldn’t agree more because by now I have ruined more than my fair share of clothing. 🙈Their advice was a turning point, guiding me to align my talent with my true self. But this was not the end, it was a stepping stone towards a new direction. At that moment of realization, I gave up on my fashion design career, and dabbled in art leisurely. Unfortunately, during my carefree young adulthood, a disaster struck and I felt like my world was swallowed by the great blue sky. But then, I picked up a paintbrush for the first time and discovered the joy of painting. This newfound discovery changed my perspective on life. 🎨 I never thought art would play such a significant role in my destiny. It became more than just a hobby; it became my companion during isolation and despair. Art became a tool for healing, a catalyst for growth, and a source of happiness and wealth. Its transformative power filled me with hope and motivation.❤ Thanks to the honesty of my instructors, my love for painting ultimately led me to a career in art. Now, I would love to hear from you, tell me, if you ever encountered a failure that lead you to success in art? With Joy, Ting
