Hi artist, Most of my life I have spent working as an artist. I started by painting on my kitchen table in a tiny 600-square-foot apartment. Although I only had a little material comfort then, my talent kept me happy. One day, after I filled up my apartment with paintings, I gathered the courage to participate in a local art show. My first art show was moderately successful, which boosted my confidence to move forward. From that day forward, the art world opened up to me. The more I explored art marketing and networked with industry people, the more accessible my target audience became.
Eventually, in 2007, I opened my first art gallery in an artsy town called Wells. My husband and I converted a modest house on the main floor into a gallery. It was just a tiny 400-square-foot gallery with an attached studio. Over time, we moved from a part-time gallery to a full-time capacity and won the best gallery in the Kootenay. During this time, I went from selling $800 to $5,000 paintings, and my audience grew to international status. I feel honored when people decorate their homes with my art. The joy of selling a painting far surpasses the monetary result. It’s more about the pleasure of the creative process and when someone falls in love with your art and resonates with its meaning. That is the biggest reward of all. Today, I live in an ocean-view house, working from home, creating programs to support artists like you. I want you to feel that joy, not just in the creation but also in the marketing. This way, you can let your passion fulfill you and your creative business holistically. When you can make money with your talent, you will feel empowered, and if you put in the effort, you can design your desired lifestyle sooner than you think. Remember, your talent is not to hoard but to share. Your life purpose is to bring joy into people’s lives with your creation. Your art plays a vital role in someone’s happiness. The more you create and share, the more your art business will grow. And naturally, financial and time freedom follow. So, before you think being an artist is too hard to achieve. Ask yourself, why? If the reasons are because you don’t know where to start, then please hear me out; most of your fears are learnable. This means once you gain the knowledge and take action, the confidence will naturally come. Now, please think about how you can move forward today. With Joy, Ting Yuen
