Understanding your audience is more than just a good idea; it's a strategic move that can significantly boost your business and increase your earnings. It's a game-changer! It's common to see artists struggling with their art business. They paint without any plan; their portfolios are a mixture of genres and subjects. And their art sales are as random as they create them. The reason? They haven’t honed in on their mission or art genre, resulting in target audience ignorance. Listen, artist, if you’re trying to cater to everyone’s taste, you’re likely to end up pleasing no one. But if you focus on a specific audience with a chosen art genre and mission your art sales will be far more effective. By doing so, you can cater to their needs, preferences, and tastes. My Story:
When I was just starting out, I made the same mistake, creating a mixture of genres with no planning. I sold my art, but I needed more to call it a business. My art venture remained a hobby until I discovered the power of aligning my vision and mission with my goal. Once I grasped that, my art passion transformed into a business, and I felt empowered because I finally knew who my target audience was. My Breakthrough: So this is what I did as an emerging artist: I concentrated on what I knew best and loved most, and I focused on my art messaging and selling. I dove into my figurative art and created work that spoke to women like me. Inadvertently, I found my tribe, and that was how my Artist Diary Series continued to grow. My art became a mission to empower women. When I started my art journey, I did not think about who my audience was. I created from my heart and stayed focused on my mission. My consistency is what brought the right target audience to me. Now, Your Turn So, friend, to elevate your business you must pinpoint what your art is about and who your target audience is. Once you have a clear vision of who your ideal customer is, you can strategize effective ways to market to them. We must figure out who they are, their demographics, their preferences, what inspires them, their taste, and how they talk. To help you figure out who your audience is I have some questions for you:
Once you delve into the essence of your art, you'll uncover who you're creating for, and your journey as an artist will take on a more profound, meaningful significance. Now, I would love to hear from you, if you have any questions about the subject please leave your comment below. I respond to all comments and emails. With Joy, Ting
