As artists, we are more sensitive than most people. Most of us are introverts, compassionate and empathic. Today I want us to explore how we can translate our feelings into our art. You may disagree with me, but I believe our best energy source is our emotional selves, which is how you can make art uniquely yours. Here is how I started painting; My husband, Paul, and I were newlyweds; We were in our early twenties, adventurous and free-spirited. Right after our wedding, we moved to the Caribbean. Living in the Caymans was surreal; it felt like paradise, and we spent every day playing in the sun. But one gorgeous summer day, my best friend, Paul, got into a car accident and was severely injured.
Our paradise crumbled, Paul was in pain, and I was depressed. On one of his many doctor appointments, Paul stopped by an art shop and suggested that it was time for me to start panting because I have always wanted to do it, so I did. My first few paintings were reference pictures from personal photographs and magazines. After a few try-outs, I started painting about our pains and frustrations. My art naturally evolves into a narrative of our life events. I found it calming exploring my feelings was helpful to me. Creating from my heart helped me release stress, and I became instantly addicted to it. I let my emotions guide me; I painted feverishly till the wee hour of the morning. And that was how my Artist Diary Series began. Use your Emotions as your guidance: The thing is, artists, paint from your emotional source. Art relays energy when you paint from your heart. Don’t be afraid to express yourself through your work; don’t be shy to cry between paint dipping. As artists, we must feel our work; if we don’t create from our soul, our work will be stiff and emotionless. But when we do something magical happens and you will start creating your best work because your work will exude substance. When your viewers look at your art, they will see the inner depth of your inspiration. It is through your self- expressions that you create deep connections. Share instead of Deprivation: The thing is, artist, it doesn’t matter how good your work is. You need to share it with the world. When you are afraid to show them, you are depriving yourself of the joy of letting someone into your existence. If you create genuine work, when it comes time to market it, you will have clarity on how to make the connection with your viewers because it is authentically yours. Live your life with authenticity: But if you don’t start sharing your work, the dream of making your art into a business will remain just that. I don’t believe we should only do what we are comfortable with; I firmly believe that growth and pursuing your dream naturally come with discomfort. You will live authentically by allowing yourself to experience and work through your fear. You owe yourself the chance to live your destiny. If you've been thinking about making your art into a business, I have created a workbook to help you journal your thoughts on pursuing your dream. Download your workbook now and find out if you are ready to commit. With Creative Joy, Ting
