The question I often get asked is, "How do I find my art buyers?" Hi, artist, if you are wondering how to reach the right people to purchase your art and where to find them, you will be surprised that the answer starts with you. You first need to excavate who you are as an artist and what subject you can paint consistently and still find a passion for many years down the road. If you are wondering how you can reach the right people to purchase your art and how to find them, then start with yourself and the kind of art that you do. Listen, artist, if you dabble in art and are multi-passionate about the subjects you paint, you will have difficulty finding your target audience because you need to be more specific.
For example, where do you think your audience is if your portfolio consists of many different genres, such as flowers, people, skyscrapers, and still life? Your potential customers are most likely all over the place, and I am not saying that's a good thing. Because if you try to reach everyone, you are selling to no one. You can't be all over the site if you want to find your target audience and sell art. I was you years ago; I painted every subject I wanted and had a hard time defining my target audience; I needed to figure it out. My portfolio was incohesive with a mixture of topics. My multi-passionate mind exacerbated my ignorance further because I didn't know how many coconut trees I should paint or how many beach scenes I should create. I was not known for anything; I was just a dabbler. Although my art sold, it needed to be more consistent; I still needed to learn who my buyers were. Because without consistent sales, I couldn’t build a viable art business, and I was desperately afraid to remain a hobbyist. If you want to know your target audience, start with you. Excavate your true passion and mission and create work that genuinely means something to you. It could help; if you consider your art as a brand, what kind of people would like your work, who they are, and how old they are. Think more about your audience's demographics.
