Hello, artist; let's talk about our beautiful creative minds today. I want to honor our creativity and remember why being an artist is our destiny. Isn’t this true; There is nothing quite like creating something from your mind and seeing it come to life? Our Genius Zone The painting and making process is intuitive; you feel it as you create, and you instinctively solve problems as you see the progression of your work. I love it when my projects are going exceptionally well, the elations I feel when I see my project coming together. The emotions confirm that I am doing what I meant to do. I am sure you know that feeling when everything in your life seems like all roses, and you do a little dance in your studio, and you are naturally as high as a kite. But on the other hand, I'm not too fond of it when my painting is not working out, and the frustrations eat me alive. That is when I discover the Frida Kahlo or the Van Gogh in me, either hot-tempered, expressive, or tortured.
The thing is, the whole process, from thinking to creating, is what makes art so deliciously addictive. It is not just the good; it's wrong and ugly too. The complexity of our craft is what makes us feel alive. Art making is addictive because we feel closer to our Creator when we create. Seeing our idea metamorphose onto the canvas is compulsive and magical. The loser projects you saved painstakingly make you feel accomplished because you have learned something by solving your mistakes; the promising projects that started well and ended well constitute your skills and knowledge. We are creators; learning is part of our genius. Being Picked Last for Dodgeball Can Really Mess Us Up I understand we grew up being the last ones picked for a sports team, or when academic subjects are not our forte, we felt like we didn't belong. Perhaps many of these reasons are the ones that make us easily intimidated or sensitive. Because we are different from most people, I know the feeling all too well, and they are valid and genuine. I understand what makes us disorganized or messy or easily intimidated, or introverted may make us feel like we can't make money from our art because we lack confidence. You might even think studio time is not as fun once art becomes your business. The pressure of coming up with lots of work may hinder your creativity. Re-Frame your Mind But that couldn't be further than the truth. It is your frame of mind; instead of feeling that your freedom of creating becomes restricted, you should feel the other way. Here's the thing, yes, when your art becomes a business, you need to think more strategically, but that doesn't mean you lose your creative prowess; it just means you got to consider before you do. That is not so hard, right? I want to remind you that we don't have to make our gifts a private thing; we should share them with the world because I seriously believe it is something that needs to be transmitted to make the world a better place. Everyone is born with a gift; ours is to create art and not hoard it but share it. So if making your art into a business is on your mind, but you are unsure how and what to do with it, let's figure out your path. Every path is different, and you need to honor that. I did it, what got me to commit to it was the love of the craft, and the despise of my tedious job. So when I decided to make it into my business, I had to make a few changes and balance my creative mind with a more analytical way of thinking. But it is all doable, and it just enhances everything that I have always been, except it makes me more powerful in the way that I can plan and execute. I Will Always Pick You First I know how our creative minds work; that's the reason why I am doing art biz coaching and why I have a free FB Group. I had so many artists asking me how to do it while operating my art gallery, so when Covid hits, I just thought the timing couldn't be perfect for me to help my fellow artists so that you too can live the life and fulfill your dream. So if you haven't joined, you should; it will help you to excel if you put in the effort. Because our creative mind does need a guideline having a camaraderie of like-minded creatives to cheer us on does make a difference. Let me encourage you that what you do is essential and that you are born a creator for a reason. That incredible feeling you have while creating can be your life. P/S I will do FB Q&A LIVE Thursday at noon PST for the next couple of weeks, so if you have any questions, please leave a comment below, and I will get them answered at my FB Channels, Build Your Art Business and Creating a Profitable Art Business. See you then! With Creative Joy, Ting
