I am a rare breed; I live in a bubble so that I can create original art. Hey artist, I’ve been in the art industry for two decades, and my work has evolved many times over, not by style but by skills. As a self-taught artist, my skills were weak, but they improved as I nurtured them with practice. One thing about my art is that it is original, and my style is distinctive. I may be a rare breed because I deliberately refrain from looking at other artists’ work so that I create meaningful and personal work from my heart. I pride myself on being different, thinking outside the box, and being authentically ME. Friend, to be an artist, we have the responsibility to be an original, not a copy. After all, the purpose of art is self-expression.
Moreover, similar art pieces are abundant, so why create more of the same, even if it is a popular style? Surely, that is when art loses its meaning. As artists, we have the power to let our voices be heard by creating mission-driven art. Art is about beauty, but it can also be evolutionary thinking and thought-provoking. It can be an experience if you desire it to be. Painting from your heart and your voice is crucial to the quality of your art. When you feel the depth of the meaning behind your work, your work will take on a whole new glow and beauty. Let your art reflect the energy that you put into it. Let it speak to you and your audience. Being in front of the house in the gallery, I consistently see and hear people’s reactions to my art. One of my favorite compliments is, “I can feel your soul when I look at your art.” To me, that is worth more than gold. :) When you paint, I want you to think about your process. If you want to create original work from your heart, here are a few questions you should consider.
Happy creating, everyone! With Joy, Ting
