"How do I transition from a 9-5 job into owning my own art business successfully." This is the question I often get asked from artists.
Well, may I suggest start by doing art shows and events get some hands-on business knowledge under your belt. I understand most of you would like to stay home and make money online but I hate to break it to you, that is not how it works unless you have either a dispensable income or someone to support your creative side hustle financially. Most of us don’t have that privilege. So the only way to do this is to start small and grow from there. Effective measures have to be taken to secure your business footings. It’s like that idiom: We must learn to walk before we can run”. Don't get ahead of yourself, take your baby steps and do it right. Hello artist, do you know what will help your business? Tell me if this is you: You have sold art for years but without a single testimonial to show for it. It is not because your customers do not enjoy your work, but because you have never asked for a review. You might have gotten some great comments and praises from customers on emails and social media, but you have never done anything about them. BTW just for the record, if you've gotten some great emails or comments about your art, you can’t just share them on your website or marketing campaign without your customer's permission. That is why intentionally asking your customers for reviews is the way to go. Here is Why having Testimonials is Vital for your Business. Does procrastination lead to better creativity? I am sure this past year has been challenging for most of us. The pandemic has thrown the entire world into a whirlwind, and it was no different for me. Aside from losing my beloved mom, I have just moved across the country and have embarked on art business coaching. My day timer is filled to the brim. Working six days a week is finally making a dent on my To-Do list! Now, I am seeing results and thrilled to be getting momentum. Building something new takes time, but I can't imagine where I would be sitting right now if I have been procrastinating. |
