"We struggle with insecurity because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel." Steven Furtick
Hi artists, It is detrimental to your well-being when you compare yourself to other artists. In today's world, social media became the measurement stick. You are habituated to scrolling on your phone checking out other artists' work and the number of followers they have on their accounts. You noticed other artists are doing well, which makes you feel horrible about yourself and discourage that you are trialing behind.

When I started my art career, I spent my time creating work and selling them. Desperate to make a living from my art, I did art commissions and art shows, taught kids camp, sought gallery representation, and eventually landed myself a solo show.
I was having a blast in my life, I knew if I kept up with this, I could do this as a career. What worked for me was a string of things: passion, determination, courage, and blissful ignorance. Although I had no confidence in my artistic skill and business ability I had courage on my side and that was all I needed. Aspiring artists often asked me how to gain confidence as a newbie. My advice is to take time to nurture your art and business skills and most of all have courage. Courage is necessary for life, especially if you want an unconventional one. I recently found this quote which describes what courage is so well. You know, there is one thing I dislike, and that is when businesses use their social media as their websites.
If you are an artist without a website. "You are missing a massive part of the puzzle!" If you are a business that sells products or services, you need a website to survive. If you don't have a gallery and don't do art shows, your only way to make money is through your website. As you know by now, you shouldn't use other platforms to host your work; if you haven't read that yet, click here. Listen, social media is excellent; it transforms how we can reach out to our customers. As you know, most people under 70 are on SM nowadays. My dad, who is 91 is on SM, he is not good with it, but he knows it's about entertainment and socializing. You want to sell art online but don't have a website. And you don't have thousands of dollars to hire a web designer.
Hi, I am Ting, an artist, gallerist, and business coach. I have helped my members build their websites, and now I have a comprehensive guide to help you to do just that. When I started my artist journey, I hired a web designer and it was costly and every time I needed a small update, it costs me more. Eventually, when website builders became user-friendly, I built my own. During the process I learned from the pros and after 3 websites I have put together an easy-to-follow 26-page "How to Build your Artist Website from Scratch" Guide to help you build an artist website that will make you proud. |
