Hi, artist, Let’s talk about your art business for a bit.
Can you tell me how you currently generate consistent income from your art creations? I am asking you this because I know you want to own a successful creative business one day so you can quit your 9-5. But if your dream of owning a business seems unachievable, I don’t want you to feel discouraged because most artists have the same problem. You are probably selling a painting here and there, but not enough to make a living. You want a consistently reliable way to make a profitable and sustainable business. I hear you because there is no point in owning a business if you are struggling to feed yourself.

Hey, artist, other than the creative aspect of my art business, my favorite part of owning an innovative enterprise is self-empowerment.
Why Owning a Business is Self-Empowering For over 20 years as an artist, I never worried about getting laid off or fired because I am in charge of my destiny, which is HUGE for me. You see, I have an adventurous spirit and have been a nomad all my life. Every four years or so, I uproot and move to a new town or country, and recently, I moved across Canada. Having a business allows me to do that, plus it counterbalances my nomadic tendency with stability and security. It allows me to live authentically and yet travel and grow. Isn’t that awesome? I want to tell you this because owning an art business can mean freedom to you, as to me. You can design your life and business the way you want it. "After all these years of selling my art, I have no regrets. I am so glad I plunged into building a creative business because I have created wealth and independence from it. For over 20 years, I never worried about being laid off, fired, or worse yet, stuck in a soul-crushing job. Being an artist-entrepreneur made me grow as a person in the most significant way. Hi artist, for over 20 years, I have sold my art through art shows, and gallery representation, my own art gallery and online. In-person sales by far outperform my online sales in an overwhelming landslide. Last blog I shared the shocking conversion rate of in-person sales is 20-40%, and online is 2.8%. If you hadn't read last week's blog, you should; it's an eye-opener on what you should do with your social media to grow your online sales. Social media is the rage. Artists are hoping on to Social Media thinking that they will instantly get discovered and their artwork will fly out of their studio effortlessly.
But the truth is, you probably spend hours curating your SM posts; you get likes but no sales. Does that sound familiar? Meanwhile, you hear some wildly successful stories about artists doing $x amount of sales, making you feel depleted. But do you know how many deals are not happening online on every sale you hear? Close to hundreds of millions. Think about it, Meta (Instagram and Facebook) has over 200 million business profiles. How many people are selling there? If online conversion for sales is 2.8% that means close to 196 million people are not making sales. That is dramatic, right? My Experience as a Gallery Owner: I am front of the house in my gallery for 13 years. In my experience, I know art sells when the viewers understand and connect.
Art is a luxury; it is an investment, so most people do not purchase original art without some careful consideration. They want to fall in love with it before they give you their cash. Therefore a few factors have to line up—for example, the image, skill, message, service, and price. Artist, if you got the talent and the image is priced right (note, I said Right, not Cheap), then the next step is to help your audience connect with the art and ask for the sale. |
